El Paso - - - The Swine Flu vaccine should arrive in Texas any day now. But one El Pasoan wishes it had come a lot earlier.
19 year old Alyssa Prieto got the Swine Flu while she was away at school. Her case, like most, was mild. But she says she is thankful she did not develop serious complications.
Prieto was attending Texas State at San Marcos last Spring when she started feeling sick. She went to the school health clinic with a fever.
She tested positive for influenza type A, which meant there was a chance she had Swine Flu.
At the time, her school did not want to take any chances so she was asked to move out of the dorms. She had to stay with relatives until she recovered.
"I was exhausted constantly. i couldn't stop coughing. I had migraines. The fever was awful. I was radiating heat so badly, people sitting next to me could feel it."
Two weeks later, test results came back confirming that Prieto had Swine Flu. Experts say 19-24 year olds like Alyssa are at risk for developing serious complications. The best way to protect yourself from Swine Flu is to get vaccinated.
