Concerns are being raised from some parents who say they have been denied appointments by the city for their children to receive recommended H1N1 flu booster shots. The Centers for Disease Control recommends children ages 9 and under get two vaccines for full protection against the virus. Clayton McCook says his 17-month old got her first shot about a month ago at a city health clinic and was given a reminder card to get a second shot, but when Clayton called the city Friday morning to schedule an appointment for next week's mass clinic, he says he was turned away. We called the City of El Paso Department of Public Health to find out why schedulers were not following those guidelines.
A spokesperson for the city says they will give boosters to children who need them. We got them in contact with Mr. McCook and they have since scheduled an appointment for his daughter to get her shot.
