SWINE FLU VACCINE AVAILABLE IN CERTAIN LOCATIONS

The El Paso City-County Health Department still can't say exactly when free vaccinations will be offered. Today we were told only that it'll be some time in late October or early November.
But it's a different story at local doctor's offices, which are already administering the vaccine.

Sergio Sanchez is one of the first kids in the area to get the swine flu shot. His mother Sylvia heard his doctor had the vaccine and was lucky enough to get it.

"I wanted to see if they offered it today and well they did so I took advantage of it."

Sergio is not alone. This doctor's office has seen plenty of patients with flu-like symptoms lately. Most of them are H1N1 cases.

"It's been really busy..."

Doctor Nicolas Rich says he's ordered four thousand doses of the swine flu vaccine. But so far, only a couple hundred have arrived. He's not worried, though.

"They are providing primary-care physicians with certain doses to start with and then little by little they will continue to arrive."

There's another problem - the Swine Flu vaccine is in nasal form and not recommended for children under the age of 2. Rich says the regular shot is on the way.

"We are gonna get the injector pretty soon so just give us a call every two or three days to make sure it gets here."

All that matters to Sylvia is that her son is protected against the Swine Flu. Since he goes to daycare and she works at an elementary school, both are exposed to viruses on a daily basis.

"There's already been confirmed cases at my school so i want to make sure that he's gonna be ok."

Doctor Rich says it bears repeating: the best way to prevent yourself from getting the Swine Flu is to wash your hands, cover your mouth when you cough and use anti-bacterial lotion whenever possible.
