A suspicious man who was spotted on the MacArthur School campus Friday afternoon has not been caught.

MacArthur and Burgess High School were both put on lockdown, or no one was allowed in or out.

Authorities blocked off the streets surrounding the schools as they searched for the man.

El Paso ISD police said a custodian saw a suspicious man on the school campus by the portable buildings just before 1 p.m. Friday. She thought the man had a gun but police have not confirmed that information. That employee said she saw the man running away from the school. She reported it to school officials, they called police and the school was put on lockdown.

Dozens of parents stood outside feeling scared and worried. Many were seen crying.

The district's police chief said all students were safe.

"The staff did an excellent job making sure every student was accounted for and in their classroom. We searched the entire building and no suspicious subjects were found," said Victor Araiza with EPISD Police Dept.

MacArthur students were released on time at 2:45 p.m. Burgess High School students were released to their parents at 3:45 p.m.
