Officers assigned to the Northeast Tactical Unit and the Special Traffic Investigations Unit have located the Dodge pickup truck they allege was involved in a hit and run collision that left 9-year-old Mariah Lewis with serious injuries Sunday night.

Monday, Lewis' family contacted NewsChannel9 with an update on her condition, saying "She is doing so much better. She is awake now, she can't remember a lot, but doctors say that's normal and the first few days will be foggy."

El Paso Police officers say the investigation continues.

I live a few houses from where the accident happened. This neighborhood has been plagued by careless drivers speeding and running stop signs for years. I'm afraid to let my children play in front of my home. I hope the community can come together and be more aware of our children playing outside. It could have been any of our children that day.... let's not forget this horrible act, but remember.
