Suspect Stands Trial in Stabbing Death of Girlfriend's Father
El PASO — A family fight in the Lower Valley left one man dead and another now facing a jury on murder charges.
Ruben Canales, 21, allegedly stabbed and killed his girlfriend's father Gerardo Juarez, 39, in February and is now being charged with murder.
According to the arrest affidavit, the men were at a home on the on Maravilla Drive in the Lower Valley Feb. 3 around 10 p.m. when they got into an argument in the kitchen.
Police said the fight quickly got out of control when Canales grabbed a knife which led to a physical fight between the two and left Juarez severely injured. He later died because of a stab wound to his back near his kidneys.
