EL PASO - Supporters insist he's innocent.

Today, they rallied for Daniel Villegas; the El Paso man serving a life sentence for a double murder. Villegas claims a detective bullied him into making a confession. Villegas appealed for a re-trial, but a judge has yet to make a decision on that.

" Today is his 35th birthday and his 17th birthday behind bars. He was really hoping to be out here with us celebrating his birthday, so we figured this was the next best thing we could do for him,” said John Mimbela, a Villegas supporter.

"We're having a lot of problems with the district attorney's office cooperating with us. We've gotten them a lot of proof and they just refuse to listen to us,” said Yolanda Villegas, Villegas' mother.

No date's been set for the judge to rule on a possible re-trial for Villegas.

I stand behind Villegas and the family. Proof and Evidence speaks volumes.....you have an innocent man behind bars...no proof was their to lock him up & now so much evidence has piled up on your desk proving him innocent....how much longer can you prolong this? This is your chance to make things right for him. SO much time lost with his loved ones that he will never get back. Someone needs to listen and see that you cannot continue to keep him locked up......
