Two bike patrol officers in Sunland Park are doing OK after allegedly being assaulted Wednesday.

Officials with the department said the officers saw a car speeding on the 400 block of Second Street so they followed the driver to his home, but when officers tried to arrest Joel Ibarra, 19, for outstanding warrants they said they were stopped by his family. The officer was allegedly put in a choke hold and punched by Hector Peña, 19, and then attacked by Marina Chavez, 18. The officer said he was forced to tase the pair.

Chavez and Peña have been charged with battery on a police officer and Ibarra was arrested for outstanding warrants. Both officers have bruises and scratches but are OK.
