Sunland Park family honored during National Homeownership Month
Event held to highlight the advantages of homeownership
ALBUQUERQUE, NM – USDA Rural Development State Director Terry Brunner was in Sunland Park, New Mexico today to continue this month’s National Homeownership Month celebration.
The event honoring the Miguel Duarte family shows that the United States Department of Agriculture remains focused on carrying out its mission, despite a time of significant budget uncertainty. Today’s celebration is one part of the Department’s efforts to strengthen the rural economy through homeownership.
The National Homeownership celebration is held every June to provide education to the public on the advantages of homeownership. This year the Duarte family was honored because they are a good example of how anyone can become a homeowner. Also, the event brought to light how the housing industry has created jobs and a better lifestyle for those residents living in the Colonias along the U.S. / Mexico border.
During the event Brunner said, “The economy is picking up and this is a great time to take advantage of buying or rehabilitating your house.” Brunner added, “I congratulate the Duarte family for working hard to become homeowners and although they may not realize it they are contributing to our economy getting stronger.”
Also honored during the celebration was Riviera Homes, Inc. a construction company that has been building homes for the last 13 years throughout the southern part of the state. Marcos Rivera was honored for building a high quality home especially for those residents choosing to live in the Colonias along the U.S./Mexico border.
