(El Paso) KTSM — The 80th Hyundai Sun Bowl is just days away and dozens of volunteers are preparing everything for Tuesday’s game.
"We do barricades we got to do field painting and make sure all faucets are working, hot water you know there's a lot of behind the scenes prep work that a lot of people don't know that goes in the game but again we have 20 to 30 volunteers that have taken vacation over the holidays to come and help us do this," Sun Bowl Special Events Director Joe Daubach said.
Daubach said it takes many volunteers to accomplish a successful event and that's what makes El Paso one of the best hosts.
"It's a sense of El Paso pride when they come to El Paso they leave and say that's the friendliest city they've ever been to and that says a lot about our volunteers, it says a lot about our vendors and El Pasoans we put up a great show and people know it," Daubach added.
But work crews weren't the only ones at the stadium. Some UCLA fans also made their way to the Sun City and said their overall experience has been great.
"It's been very positive everywhere we've gone everyone is really friendly El Paso itself was a surprise again I didn't know much about it but then we read how it's a very safe city," UCLA Fan Glenn Fukun said.
According to the Sun Bowl association director Bernie Olivas the event is expected to impact the borderland with more than 14 million dollars that go directly into hotels, restaurants, bars and other city venues.
"It's hard to tell exactly how many people are coming to town right now but I hope they fill out our hotels and eat at our restaurants and shop at our stores and have a good economic impact for the city," Olivas said.
