On Wednesday, the Sun Bowl Association announced that the Thanksgiving Day Parade will include pyrotechnics for the first time in the 76 year history of the parade.

Joe Daubach, Special Events Director for the Sun Bowl Association, said they plan to have pyrotechnics shooting down the parade path.

"We are going to have live pyrotechnics. We will have flames, booms, flashes, bams, fireworks. You name it, we're going to have it," said Daubach.

Daubach said the Sun Bowl Association got the idea from last year's Rose Parade in Pasadena, California.  He said they studied it, talked to the people with the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association to bring it to El Paso.

"On the Incredible Hulk float, I can't tell you what, but you can only imagine. It's got a cannon, it's got some missile launchers. You put two and two together, and you'll know what it is."

The Hulk float is sponsored by the El Paso Sports Commission.

Daubach said they are working with fireworks professionals, as well as the El Paso Fire Department.

There are a total of 20 floats participating in this year's First Light Federal Credit Union Sun Bowl Parade on Thanksgiving Day.

The parade route starts at Montana and Ochoa, and ends at Montana and Copia.  It begins at 10 a.m.

You can watch live television coverage on NewsChannel 9 beginning Thanksgiving morning at 10 a.m.

I just hope that they have a good volunteer (maybe 2) where the First Light Credit Union Logo is painted on Montana where the stands are. Those volunteers are supposed to make sure that the people riding horses guide their horses away from the Logo so they don't slip and fall. I still have nightmares from when a horse steped onto the logo and fell. It always baffles me that the horse riders don't pay more attention to where the logo is & take care that their horses don't step onto the logo.
