Researchers say zinc supplements may help you fight the common cold.

While the precise estimate is still uncertain, scientists found that people who started taking zinc-loaded lozenges or syrups within 24 hours of showing cold symptoms, shortened their cold by one day. A normal cold lasts about a week.

Symptoms of a cold include: a sore throat, runny nose, sneezing and fatigue.

The review was published by the Cochrane Collaboration, an international organization that evaluates medical research.
