Having a stressful job can be hard on your health but having no job at all can eventually take a deadly toll. A new study finds people who are unemployed at some time in their lives are at an increased risk of heart attack after the age of 50.

Scientists found that a job loss can pose the same dangers as smoking, high blood pressure or diabetes. The study found people who experienced four or more job losses in their lifetime had a 63% higher risk of heart attack compared to those who had never experienced unemployment.

The risks were the same for men and women, for all races and ethnic groups and for rich people and poor ones.
