Students Receive Workforce Solutions Scholarships
EL PASO, TX — Earlier this month, University of Texas board of regents approved a tuition hike of 2.2 percent for in-state UTEP students. Twenty UTEP students are getting some relief.
Workforce solutions handed out 20 scholarships Friday to students pursing degrees in science, technology, engineering and math.
"I had to save money for school, now i can use it for something else," said scholarship recipient Jesse Valles.
Workforce Solutions said education is the key to El Paso's future.
"When we have the opportunity to give money for education, we do that immediately,” said Lorenzo Reyes with Workforce Solutions. “Obviously there is other areas we focus on but to us the foundation and the future of this community is gonna be education. If we're gonna create economic development, education is the foundation."
Each student received $4,500 for their tuition.
