El Paso Sixth-Graders at Lincoln Middle School Thursday received energy efficiency kits from El Paso Electric. The kids will take the lead to show their families how to save big.

The distribution was part of a recognition ceremony for sixth-grade teacher Louise Bergdahl. The teacher has spearheaded the energy efficiency education program developed by Resource Action Programs.

Efforts of 8,034 teachers and students have saved enough electricity to power 598 single-family homes, as much water as 998 homes use, and the greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to 1,011 passenger vehicles for one year.
