Strong Winds Tuesday
As a storm grows stronger to our north, winds increased all across the area late Tuesday morning. The National Weather Service issued a High Wind Warning as well as a Blowing Dust Advisory in advance of the wicked winds. By noon, gusts were already over 40 miles an hour at the El Paso airport and later in the afternoon, gusts were over 50 mph.
The winds made it difficult to travel, especially in trucks and SUVs. The large profiles of these vehicles create a wide area that can be pushed by winds. Widespread blowing dust limited visibility, at one point there was only 2 miles visibility at the El Paso airport as the winds picked up significant dust.
Late in the night, a cool front will pass through and shift the wind and drive in some cooler air, and lighter winds.
