A woman and her child narrowly escape what could have been a tragedy this afternoon.

A state police officer pulled over a woman and her six year-old child for speeding in Santa Teresa around 4:30 p.m. on Domenici Memorial Highway at the intersection of State Road 9. During the traffic stop, a stray bullet hit the back of the car, inches away from the child.

No one was hurt and police say it was an accident as people were shooting guns in the desert. No one was charged.
