EL PASO - Texas voters will soon decide the future of Parks and Recreation in El Paso County.

If passed by state voters, Proposition 7 would amend the Texas Constitution to allow El Paso County to create conservation and reclamation districts. Those districts could then develop parks and recreational facilities that would ultimately be paid for by taxpayers.

Supporters say the amendment is needed because the City of El Paso's current Parks system, which is also used by the county, is underfunded. Those against the measure say it only allows El Paso County to tax it's citizens even more.

Voters will decide on November 8, 2011.

In the short term, yes more parks are needed. In the long term, more taxes will be needed to maintian these new parks. Once you hand money to politicians they spend it almost as fast, then look for more revenue sources.

This article is sort of late in comming as well as does not provide enough info on the "pros and cons" of what can be considered an important subject since it involves taxes. I wish more publicity would have been given on this proposition before the vote.
