State Representative honored
Tuesday, Joe Pickett, Chairman of the Homeland Security and Public Safety Committee and State Representative for El Paso District 79, received a Law Enforcement Leadership Award for his hard work during the 83rd Legislative Session. The Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas (CLEAT) Executive Director Charlie Wilkison presented the award at Pickett's Capital Office.
Wilkison said that the award was given in recognition of Pickett's support and leadership to law enforcement during the Session. "Chairman Pickett has remained steadfast in his commitment to law enforcement and has remained a strong friend despite pressure from anti-law enforcement factions," said Wilkison during the presentation.
Pickett was recognized for his continued support of law enforcement throughout the state as well as El Paso. Pickett passed legislation that will help maintain proper repair and maintenance of the Law Enforcement Memorial Monument located on the Capitol grounds, worked with police, firefighters and the City of El Paso to pass legislation that fixed issues on the pension fund, as well as participating with the ceremony remembering Texas Peace Officers killed in the line of duty.
Pickett advised, "I have always supported our veterans and public safety folks, and I am honored and privileged to receive this recognition."
The presenting organization, CLEAT, represents more than 19,000 law enforcement professionals across the state of Texas.
