The city of Las Cruces is encouraging residents to remove standing water from their property to help reduce the risk of mosquito breeding.

Protect against mosquito bites by repairing screens on windows and doors.

If you go outside, wear long sleeves and mosquito repellents that contain DEET.

Anything that holds water for more than a few days is a potential breeding site. Places water can collect include:

Open boat Pet dishes
Hole in tree Sump
Bird bath Water garden
Clogged rain gutter Leaky watering equipment
Water under house Wheelbarrow
Tarp Bucket
Rain barrel Pond
Outdoor grills Kiddy pool
Neglected hot tub Old tires
