Sports Park Construction to Start this Summer
EL PASO - Thousands of local kids won't be able to play ball at the sports park for at least six months starting this August due to construction.
The park will be completely shut down from this August until February of 2013, losing about $94,000 in revenue.
It will partially open back up during the last eight months of construction, County Commissioner Ana Perez said the public is excited.
"My constituent experts have said that they're willing to make that sacrifice to expedite construction to save coat, to avoid safety concerns and to get a full renovated park sooner," Perez said.
The complex hasn't had major upgrades since it was built 30 years ago and county leaders anticipate the face-lift will make up for the lost money.
