"The Avengers" got the summer box office off to a hot start.

Now another Marvel super hero, "The Amazing Spider-Man" will try to keep it going as that film opens around the country.

Five years after Tobey Maguire said farewell to the Spider-Man suit, Andrew Garfield is trying it on for size.

"It's much better in your imagination, because it's just uncomfortable and it's spandex, and it's tight and you're naked practically, and it's itchy and you've got zippers digging into your keister," he laughs.

But a little discomfort was a small price to pay.

Garfield has imagined being the hero since he was 3, but had to sweat out the audition process.

"I convinced myself I didn't need it, and I thought, if it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen. But then, there's a 3 year old inside me that's literally waiting by the phone," he says.

Emma Stone plays Gwen, the girlfriend of Spider-Man's alter ego, Peter Parker.

Their romance also blossomed off screen.

"Immediately, acting with him felt great. I could understand the Gwen and Peter relationship very quickly so it made it easy," Stone says.

If Spider-Man scores with moviegoers it could spark a Hollywood trend.

"People will think, we don't have to wait 10 years, 15 years to reboot a franchise. We can do it
three to four years later. Look, it worked with Spider-Man," predicts Entertainment Weekly's Dave Karger.

"The Amazing Spider-Man" arrives just a few weeks before the final installment of the Batman trilogy, "The Dark Knight Rises".
