AUSTIN, TX - A speed limit bill in Texas could create some of the fastest highways in the nation.

The measure passed by the Texas House calls for a limit of 85 miles per hour only on new roads designed for higher speeds.

The amendment is part of a bill that would kill plans for a big, foreign-owned and privately run toll road across rural Texas.

The measure must will pass the Texas Senate.

So they're raising the speed limit by 5 mph? Big deal. Most people drive 10 mph more than the limit anyways so now the cars can go from San Antonio to El Paso in about 6 hours. I bet they slow down in the mountains though... and early morning when the javelina and deer are out.
Most people in Houston already drive 80 on the freeways in town... so it's not a big step up.
