A very active group of sunspots has been visible from earth for the past few days. The sunspot group has been labeled AR 1944.

It has been facing the earth for the past few days and is the largest solar flare in more than a decade.

The cluster emitted a powerful solar flare Tuesday.

Please remember that caution and special equipment have to be used when viewing the sun. Otherwise you can do permanent damage to your vision.

Local astronomer Chris Grohusko visited our studios with tips on how to safely view the sunspots with nothing more than a pair of binoculars.

He also had details on a spectacular light display that will likely be visible in our sky in the coming nights.
