Spaceport bill passes New Mexico legislature
SANTA FE, NM — A bill protecting manufacturers and suppliers of Spaceport America is now headed to the governor's desk. The New Mexico House yesterday passed Senate Bill 240 by a unanimous 62 to 0 vote. The legislation protects spacecraft manufacturers and suppliers so long as they carry liability insurance policies of at least a million dollars. Victims who live off Spaceport grounds can still sue in the event of a disaster. Virgin Galactic, the anchor tenant at Spaceport, had threatened to leave the state if the legislature failed pass the bill.
