EL PASO--- He was one of the people closest to her. Friday, David Marmolejo, turned himself in for the murder of his mother Gloria Marmolejo.
After 9 1/2 hours in El Paso police custody, David Marmolejo was finally escorted out of police headquarters, 911 Raynor St., around 1 a.m. Saturday to be booked for his mother's murder.
While being escorted, he told the media, "I love everyone and I'm innocent."
He also told the media he did not confess to police while in custody, and turned himself him because he "had nothing to hide."
NewsChannel 9 first learned of David's surrender Friday afternoon from his brother, Manny. Manny did not want to be interviewed.
El Paso Police later confirmed the news, telling NewsChannel 9 Marmolejo arrived at headquarters around 3:30 p.m. Friday, being escorted by an acquaintance.
After going missing for several days, Gloria Marmolejo, 54, was found strangled to death in the Santa Teresa desert in July. Autopsy reports showed she was strangled with such force that her larynx collapsed.
Her head and hands were also found wrapped in bags.
David told media outlets early Saturday he loved and missed his mother, and would send her this message: "Mom, I love you, and please help me."
Police issued a warrant for her son David's arrest Friday morning.
He is now booked in the county jail on a $1 million bond.
