EL PASO - Some El Paso teachers say they are worried that they are testing more than they are teaching.

Lucy Clarke from the El Paso Federation of Teachers says at least 50 of the 179 school year days are spent on standardized testing alone.

Clarke says this could cause students to lose out on getting a well-rounded education.

NewsChannel 9 will post more details on this story as they unfold.

I agree. I am a product of the Texas education system and it SUCKS. During my years in school, everything was focused around the TAAS test (now known as the TAKS test) or the Stanford 9. The curriculum never addressed/introduced subjects outside of the basic skills. I admit, there are some students who lack the basic skills due to whatever reason. However, the basic skills should not be standard when it comes to educating. SAT/ACT curriculum should be strongly implemented into everyday teaching.
