Some Fire Restrictions Lifted in New Mexico
Silver City, NM — Forest officials have lifted fire and smoking restrictions in the Gila National Forest. They say in the days to come forest managers are also looking to open other areas within the Gila Wilderness that were temporarily closed due to the Whitewater-Baldy Fire Complex that destroyed close to 300,000 acres.
The increased humidity levels and rain in New Mexico has also prompted the U.S. Bureau of Land Management to also lift all their fire restriction. However, fire officials are urging residents to use extreme caution because the state is still dry and dealing with drought conditions.
