Some East El Paso Residents Unhappy With Sewer Repair
EAST EL PASO, TX — The smell of sewage has been wafting through the neighborhood off North Loop near a big repair job. El Paso Water Utilities says repairs to an old sewer line along Wells Road is what's causing the odor. Collapses along the 50 year old sewage line led to the emergency repair job. The presence of El Paso Water Utilities vacuum trucks have raised concerns among some residents who say they have seen the trucks vacuuming waste from around the construction site and dumping into manholes in the streets of the neighborhood.
Officials with El Paso Water Utilities issued a response to our calls. "In order to provide continuous service during the emergency repairs, EPWU is using vacuum trucks to pump wastewater out of the line and put it back in the wastewater collection system elsewhere. Cases such as this one underscore the importance of investing in our water and sewer infrastructure. Ideally, EPWU prefers to repair aging lines before an emergency arises which requires increased investment on behalf of our ratepayers."
Repairs began late last year, and will continue until the last of the defective sections along that sewer line are fixed.
