EL PASO - Police now say the man behind a standoff last night in Northeast El Paso shot himself and has since died.
Investigators say 24-year-old Robert Nichols, who is a soldier, shot himself in the chest after a two hour standoff with police.
Police found Nichols standing in front of a home on the 10400 block of Persephone holding a hand gun.
Someone called police around 8:30 last night to report a suicide and police say they heard several shots inside the home before Nichols emerged and the standoff began.
Police are still investigating.
