ANTHONY, N.M.--- A local soldier killed in the line of duty in Iraq has been laid to rest.
Spc. Tony Carrasco was buried in his hometown Saturday.
We are learning more about how the 25-year-old died in combat.
A family friend tells NewsChannel 9 the 25-year-old was shot and killed Nov. 4th by an enemy sniper in Iraq.
Family members say Carrasco's roommate, whom they only knows as "Julio," tried to save his friend.
When Carrasco was shot, it was Julio who grabbed him and carried him away from the scene.
Unfortunately his efforts weren't enough.
Family members released statement to NewsChannel 9.
Carrasco's wife, Joana, said;
"Tony was the love of my life. He was an earthly angel who came into her life and treated her and his stepchildren as his own."
Joana is four months pregnant, carrying Carrasco's child.
Carrasco is also survived by sisters Jessica, Susana and Rosie, and his parents Antonio and Juana.
