SOCORRO – Voters in Socorro are heading to the polls to choose a new city mayor.

The candidates for mayor are Jesus Ruiz, Ernesto Gomez and Trini Lopez. Ruiz is a political newcomer, Gomez is a former municipal judge and Lopez is a former mayor of Socorro.

There's no doubt voters want to pick a candidate that can bring some much needed stability to city hall after what's been a scandalous year in Socorro politics. The city has been without a mayor since May. That's when voters kicked Willie Gandara Senior out of office after he was indicted on public corruption charges.

Early election results come in at 7:00 p.m. and NewsChannel 9's Kai Porter will be live with the winner at 10.
