A local school district helps Socorro police bust a burglary ring that targeted electronics across the county.

Computers, television sets, speakers, and video game consoles were just some of many electronic items Socorro police recovered from 18 year-old Diego Barrientos and 18 year-old Marcos Muñoz this afternoon when the two were arrested for allegedly stealing property.

"We had two burglaries in Socorro, two in the County, and two in El Paso, and that'll be the follow up investigation," said Socorro Interim Police Chief, Jeffrey Wendling.

The two teens were allegedly part of a 6 person burglary ring that police say stole thousands of dollars worth of electronic goods and later tried to sell them on the streets.

According to police, the group was trying to sell electronics on a Socorro ISD campus a few weeks ago when someone alerted the authorities.

"I'm real proud of how the community came together to stop these 6 defendants or potential defendants, from doing anymore harm to our community," said Wendling.

Around 2pm Tuesday afternoon, authorities recovered some of the stolen property when they arrested Barrientos and Muñoz on Montreal Circle.

"There were two guys. They were the same height, they had baggy pants, and they looked like cholos," said Brianna Lugo, who lives on Montreal Circle.

She says she's glad the teens are now in custody.

"It felt weird because I had never seen something like that," said Lugo.

The Sheriff's Office, Socorro PD, and the El Paso Police Department are still investigating this burglary ring. Four people have been arrested and police are looking for the 2 remaining suspects.
