Sobriety checkpoints scheduled for July
Doña Ana County Sheriff's deputies have planned at least three sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols scheduled for the month of July. These activities are part of an ongoing effort to reduce DWI-related crashes, injuries and deaths.
Checkpoints and patrols will be conducted on July 4, July 6 and July 27 in various undisclosed locations throughout Doña Ana County. Checkpoints are usually set up between 6 p.m. and 4 a.m. Deputies will be looking for all types of violations with an emphasis on intoxicated drivers.
New Mexico law allows for the seizure or forfeiture of vehicles driven by people who have been convicted of multiple DWI offenses.
The Doña Ana County Sheriff's Office is also participating in the Department of Public Safety's 100 Days and Nights of Summer, a seasonal initiative that started on July 1. The statewide project puts more deputies on the streets during the summer months to reduce alcohol-related crashes and enforce the use of seatbelts.
