EL PASO — It's been four days since an SUV hit an east El Paso girl and kept driving. Six-year-old Genesis Galicia remains hospitalized at El Paso Children's Hospital with serious injuries, but her spirit is not broken.
"Genesis, how are you feeling? Good. What are you making here? A zoo, a really big zoo. Does anything hurt? Nope."
It's been a tough week for little Genesis, but you couldn't tell from her bright personality.
She suffered a broken ankle, fractured collared bone and a bruised spleen. Genesis also has cuts all over her legs after an SUV hit her on Sea Breeze and East Glen Monday night. The driver picked Genesis up, put her on the sidewalk and drove off.
Genesis is well enough to do activities in the playroom and she has also made get well cards for the other young patients at the hospital.
"Making pictures and giving pictures to some babies. Why did you want to do that? So they could feel better."
A Child Life Specialist who has been working with Genesis said it's good for her recovery.
"It's a good experience. Anytime you can have expressive outlet, that's beneficial," said Christy Scott
Genesis' mother, Viviana Ruiz has been by her daughter's side the entire time.
"She has a big heart and she's shown it," said Ruiz. "I know she's a great kid but you know these last couple of days, it's been over and beyond."
The driver who hit Genesis has not been caught. Witnesses describe the vehicle as a dark-colored SUV with tinted windows. The woman driving has short hair. She was wearing a Dallas Cowboys tank top and a baseball cap.
If you have any information or know who the driver is, call Crime Stoppers at 566-TIPS.
