The Socorro ISD community is invited to the Stop Bullying Forum, which will celebrate the district’s first year implementing a districtwide bullying prevention program. Students and District officials will participate in the event to showcase the progress the District has made to ensure bullying is less likely to occur or be rewarded in school settings.

The William D. Slider Middle School Starlets, Socorro High School guitar group and Col. John O. Ensor Middle School theater students will give performances with anti-bullying messages. The Socorro High School Anti-Bullying Student Committee also will be participating in the event.

The forum will feature two experts from the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program, who will answer questions from the community regarding the anti-bullying program in SISD. The panel for the question and answer session will include Jane Riese, director of training for the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program; Mary Yoder Holsopple, certified Olweus Bullying Prevention Program trainer; and Patrick O'Neill, SISD assistant superintendent for Administrative Services.

The Olweus program is the world’s foremost bullying prevention program. It is recognized by the Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence as one of only seven Blueprints Model Programs and by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration as a Model Program – two of the highest honors a prevention program can attain.
