The Socorro ISD Board of Trustees has settled on a new superintendent.

He is Xavier de la Torre, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources in the Elk Grove, California School District.

De la Torre would replace Sylvia Atkinson, who was fired 10 months ago.

The Socorro District has 21 days to negotiate a contract with de la Torre.
