Socorro ISD Trustees appoint the youngest board member in the district's history. 18 year-old Tanya Loya made her first appearance as a Trustee at Tuesday's board meeting. It is her introduction to the community.

Newschannel 9 spoke with Loya about her new position and what she plans to bring to the district. The UTEP freshman beat out 13 other candidates for the position.

If you are wondering how that happened, she says she submitted a letter of intent to the board and then was called for the interview. Loya's responsibilities as a trustee will include approving policy, setting a new tax rate every fiscal year, adopting new budgets and hiring and firing the district's superintendent.
