Fans of singer Jenni Rivera are mourning her death after a plane crash Sunday in northern Mexico killing the Mexican music superstar.

The 43-year-old singer was headed to another appearance after a sold out show in Monterrey when the learjet she was traveling in went off the radar crashing in rugged territory in the northern state of Nuevo Leon.

"I just said to myself, this can't be happening," said Lucy Galnares, a radio promoter with 94.7 El Gato, in El Paso.

Galnares said Rivera's death is similar to that of another music great in Selena, who was shot and killed in 1995.

"Gone so soon," Galnares said. "Here one day at the top of their career, and then and then just gone."

The wreckage of Rivera's plane was so severe almost everything was destroyed, but crews were able to find the singer's California driver's license.

Rivera had performed in El Paso in late September where Galnares introduced her to the crowd.

"Karla Hernandez, who is our morning show host, and myself had the honor of introducing her and hosting that night so we are very grateful for that," Galnares said.

From her experience with the artist, Galnares said she was very professional but down to earth at the same time.

The Mexican diva had a weekly radio on El Gato 94.7 where she would talk with fans about anything on their minds or hers.

"Whatever she would feel she would say," Galnares said. "I think it was just a way of being closer to her fans."

Galnares added Rivera was a strong woman who fought for everything she had and should be remembered for her character as well as her music.

El Gato 94.7 is planning a memorial tribute for the singer and are finalizing details.

The radio show will hold a special show in her honor Wednesday from 11am - 3pm.
