El Paso is more than a hundred miles away from the Silver fire, but the air quality shows otherwise.

The smell of smoke lingered in the air and a thick haze was visible hanging over the Franklin Mountains.

According to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, most of it is from the Silver Fire.
Residents with breathing problems are advised to limit their time outdoors for the next couple of days.

In Las Cruces conditions were even worse. The Organ Mountains weren't visible Wednesday. The winds shifted overnight, carrying the smoke from the northwest and will stick around for a few more days.

The winds aren't expected to change direction until some time Thursday.
