Consumers should prepare to pay more for dairy products like milk, yogurt and cheese. Dairy analysts predicted the price of things like milk could hit a record high in March.

"It worries me because as far as milk, I know my children can't do without milk," said Agatha Montoya.

Montoya’s family of six goes through milk fast.

"I’ll go through 2 gallons of milk a week," she said.

That's why she was concerned about a possible increase of dairy products.

The spike, of as much as 60 cents, could push the price of milk close to five or six dollars a gallon.

"It’s something that of course is going to be a struggle if it's going to be that expensive, because we're always trying to save here and there, but if i have to, I have to. I have no other options," said Montoya.

Other shoppers, like Tina Sandoval, said they'll have to cut back.

"I have grandkids that cereal like three to four times a day. So that's where most of the milk goes,” said Sandoval.

One of the main reasons for the increase is not enough cows to make enough milk to meet demand.   When the cost of feed went up last year, farmers cut back on their cows.

Any increases in milk prices may have a ripple effect on other dairy products including yogurt and ice cream.

Analysts said dairy farmers are expected to ramp up production this year, so the price increase should be short-term and stabilize by the summer.
