Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley staff and volunteers will facilitate dog, cat, puppy and kitten adoptions this Saturday, July 26.

In addition to adoptions from the shelter site, adoptions also will take place at two off-site pet adoption events.

From 8:30 a.m. to noon, adoptions will take place at the Farmer’s Market in downtown Las Cruces.

Dogs available for adoption will be located at the north end of the mall.

Cats can be adopted from the offices of the Center for Spiritual Living at the north end of the mall, across from the site where the dog adoptions take place.

From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., adoptions also will be facilitated at PetCo, 3050 E. Lohman, also in Las Cruces.

Adoption fees are $75 for dogs/ puppies and $50 for cats/kittens.

The fee includes the first set of vaccinations, spay/neuter and microchip.

At the PetCo event, microchipping for pets that already have homes will be available to the public for $20, and city pet licenses will be available to neutered pets for $5 each. Licenses for unneutered pets are $25 each.

Proof of spay/neuter is required before a $5 license will be issued.

Pet owners also must bring current proof of rabies vaccination for each animal to be licensed.

Daily cat adoptions are available at both PetCo, 3050 E. Lohman, and Pet’s Barn, 1600 S. Valley Dr., both in Las Cruces.

The Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley also offers low-cost spay/neuter operations at the rate of $35 for dogs and $25 for cats. Appointments can be scheduled by calling the shelter offices.

Dedicated transport drivers who are able to handle rambunctious adult dogs and puppies are needed for transport services on Saturday mornings in conjunction with off-site adoption initiatives.

Volunteers must be 18 or older with valid registration, driver’s license and insurance. An application form can be obtained by contacting the shelter’s volunteer coordinator at jwright@las-cruces.org.

To be considered, you must be able to handle large, rambunctious dogs and playful puppies.

Training courses will be provided to selected applicants.

Orientation and training provided and required prior to volunteering with ASCMV.
