Shawver Park lights up El Paso's Lower Valley Friday night
El Paso, TX (KTSM) — Deck the park with boughs of holly! The Shawver Park light display will kick-off El Paso's holiday season at 5:00 p.m. Friday night as the switch gets turned on for the first time in park history.
Shawver Park, located at 8100 Independence Dr. will have the holiday lighting display available for public viewing from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily through the holiday season. The park display was proposed by City Representative Eddie Holguin Jr., as an alternative use for some of the lights that were previously used in the downtown Plaza display.
City Council Rep. Eddie Holguin Jr. says, “We look forward to offering great entertainment and decorative lights for the entire family to enjoy before the holiday season.”
The park will host entertainment each Friday evening at 5:00 p.m. through December 20th. The entertainment for the first Friday event will be “April Ticket” playing a variety of popular and holiday songs in English and Spanish. The band members are Yadira Del Campo singing vocals and Edgar Campos on guitar.
Next week on Friday, December 6, “Cool and Classic Guitars,” a Choir and Folklorico Group from Riverside High School, will be entertaining the public beginning at 5:00 p.m.
El Pasoans will enter the park through a one-way road to the gazebo, where the lighting display is located. Once at the park, 34 holiday themed displays will be available for viewing along with hot chocolate drink concessions as well.
The Downtown light display was moved to Cleveland Square, but was scaled down significantly this year due to the ongoing construction in the downtown Plaza. The Cleveland Square display will be lit for the public next Saturday, December 7.
