Earlier video from TX DOT show shows a truck on I-10 West just after it caught fire. It appeared to be an 18-wheeler engulfed by flames.

The truck carried rolls of hay and drivers say it suddenly caught fire about 6:15pm. Traffic came to a quick stop and one driver who was right behind the truck says the truck was a ball of fire. He said the the heat caused the tires to blow up, and the flames shot as high as 40 feet.

About 20 firefighters arrived and encountered smoke so thick that it looked like heavy fog. The smoke swallowed surrounding parts of the freeway and the smell of hay was very strong.

Traffic on both sides of  I-10 was backed up for miles. You can see drivers on the freeway going Eastbound blanketed by the smoke. I spoke to some frustrated drivers who were stuck under that cloud of smoke for more than an hour.

TX DOT has closed westbound lanes and traffic going west needs to get off at Executive Drive.
