Search For Socorro ISD Narrowed to 3 Candidates
EL PASO — The Socorro Independent School District has narrowed its search for a new superintendent to three candidates.
A total of 83 people applied for the position.
The candidates are Michael Sorum, the Chief Academic Officer for the Fort Worth Independent School District. He has a master's degree in Education Administration from Harvard University, as well as a master's degree in Education from the University of Texas at San Antonio. He has a background of 26 years in education with positions as a teacher and university professor, among others.
Dr. Heliodor Torres Sanchez is the Chief of Staff for the Ector County Independent School District in Odessa, Texas. He earned a doctorate degree in educational administration from Texas A&M Commerce, as well as a master's degree in school administration from SUL Ross State University. He started his career in education as a middle school English teacher, and has also served as a principal and assistant superintendent, among other positions.
Dr. Joe Espinoza is currently the area superintendent for the Houston Independent School District. He earned a doctorate degree in Educational Leadership from Sam Houston State University, as well as a master's degree in counseling and guidance. He has a total of 16 years of experience in education ranging from principal to a district administrator.
The candidates will be formally introduced to the community in a series of forums that will be held on July 10, 11 and 12. Each meeting will be held from 6p.m. to 7p.m. at the District Services Center located at 12440 Rojas.
