Schuster opens on time for UTEP students
EL PASO — University of Texas students will be able to drive along Schuster Ave. on Monday, August 26.
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) closed Schuster Ave., between Sun Bowl Dr. and Prospect, St. on May 18, 2013 for the construction of the Schuster Roundabout.
"Completing the milestone of opening Schuster to traffic by August 26th was a much more difficult task than many realize," Bob Bielek, District Engineer for the El Paso District said. "Hayden Building Corp. and their subcontractors deserve a tremendous round of applause for this amazing start of this critical project."
This construction is part of the Spur 1966 Project.
The new connection between Schuster Ave. on the UTEP campus and Paisano Dr. via a bridge over I-10 will improve connections and traffic flow between the UTEP Campus, surrounding medical facilities, Sunset Heights and Kern Place neighborhoods, and Mesa St. with Paisano Dr.
It will also create an additional route to and from the downtown area and eliminate the need for UTEP-bound traffic cutting through the adjacent Sunset Heights neighborhood to access the UTEP facility, making that area safer, officials said.
