Every day in the United States, more than 3,200 children under the age of 18 smoke their first cigarette and it is estimated that 5.6 million of these youth will die prematurely from a smoking-related illness.

That’s why the City of El Paso Department of Public Health in collaboration with various other agencies will be educating El Paso youth on the dangers of tobacco use during Texas Tobacco-Free Kids Day. T

he goal is to help area children live a smoke-free, healthier life.

The event will feature educational display booths, games, prizes, and entertainment. It is being held in conjunction with “Kick Butts Day,” a national event sponsored by the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids.

“Texas Tobacco-Free Kids Day is an opportunity for youth to unite with their peers to take the stand against tobacco. It is their opportunity to speak out against tobacco products and to extend their life by saying no,” said Saraí García, Health Educator.
