New Mexico State University’s Office of International and Border Programs and the City of Las Cruces will host the International Festival 2014 from 12-4 p.m. Saturday, March 22, at the Las Cruces Convention Center. The event is free and open to the public.

The festival offers the NMSU campus and local community an opportunity to experience different cultures from across the globe. Currently, NMSU has more than 1,100 international students from 75 countries on campus.

“We feel strongly that this festival can be one of the biggest events on the community calendar,” said Cornell H. Menking, NMSU associate provost for international and border programs. “Hosting with the City of Las Cruces, holding it off campus and inviting the public to both participate and attend are steps towards dramatically growing the festival. This year will be totally different.”

The festival will include cultural displays with native art, textiles, artifacts, photographs, music, dancing and games. Participating international students will be dressed in their native fashions. Food samples from the representing international population will be available for a 50-cent donation that funds an international scholarship.
