A Franklin High School Student was awarded a special scholarship from Honeywell to attend this year's Honeywell Leadership Challenge Academy (HLCA).

Benjamin Garcia, was among 304 students from 38 countries and 33 U.S. states to receive the scholarship.

Garcia attended the first week of the program, which was held at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama from February 21 – March 7, 2014.

The program is designed to inspire the next generation of students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math.

Garcia was one of eight Texas students to attend this year.

Since its launch in 2010, Honeywell, in partnership with the USSRC, has awarded more than 1156 scholarships to students.

Scholarships are granted after a rigorous application and review processes based on academic achievement and community involvement.
