EL PASO - The EPISD superintendent figured he'd return to work today after his arrest on corruption charges, but the school board is telling Lorenzo Garcia, 'not so fast.'

Garcia posted bond and left jail last night, predicting business as usual at EPISD headquarters today. He stood in front of the media and declared that he would be at work today. But clearly, the school board has other ideas.

School board president Isela Castanon-Williams said she talked to superintendent Garcia last night and suggested that he take the next two days off as personal leave until the board decides what to do with him. She said she thought it would be beneficial for everyone involved that Garcia not be around while his fate is being decided.

"I did not feel that having gone through what he went through, with the district needing to address some other issues, that it would be appropriate for him to try and come back," said Castanon-Williams.

Garcia is being paid for now, and a school board meeting is set for tomorrow at 5 in the evening. But the discussion about Garcia's fate will take place in closed session.

The school board president says trustees will primarily consider the facts when evaluating Garcia's future. But, she says, they will also have to consider just how effective he can be considering the very serious nature of these criminal charges.

Hey Doc, please stay home, ill have your paycheck delivered to you this weekend. And by the way, you still have all your perks till we sort out this mess.

If you ever meet or listen to Dr. Garcia, you can instantly sense his arrogance. He thought he was bulletproof. Why doesn't the school board take his salary, trim some of the pay from administration and rehire some of the people who have been let go. Everyone has made sacrifices except upper management. I think EPISD is a little fat on top.

I agree. Sacrifices on everyone else's expense except his of course. It is a duck!

My,My,My, what ever happened to "innocent til proven guilty"
